After the tremendous success of Spotlight- the exclusive set of formal and informal dance events last year, MICANVAS’11 is proud to return with its second edition in a bigger and grander format. The purpose is to mix the new with the familiar, and the challenging with the more accessible. It is the very depiction of dance as an exclusive means of communication, addressing myriad themes performed by the participants.
And off the spectacular contemporary stage show isn’t enough, there’s a dance-off waiting to happen to put your on-the-spot dance skills to test. Also as part of our efforts to make MICANVAS more exciting for all our participants, we are also glad to announce a one of its kind workshop on Brazilian Martial Art- Capoeira for the 3 days of the event. Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that is currently practiced all over the world. Capoeira as a sport is played in several different ways. The moves are accompanied and even led by the music and songs that the Master (Mestre) and students play and sing. Distinctive from other martial arts by this music, the continuous movement of the players and the minimal contact involved it is often (mis)taken for a dance. However, the grace and flexibility of the players doesn’t hide their strength and skill.
